The Centre

Established by The Chinese University of Hong Kong and strategically located in the Hong Kong SAR, the Centre has the advantage of

  • Providing a bridge between the East and West
  • Multi-language ability and multi-cultural perspectives
  • Understanding of the Chinese and Western contexts

The Centre is a

  • Member of the UNEP Network of Institutions for Sustainable Development (NISD);
  • Recipient of the ˇ§Regional Awardˇ¨ from IAIA (2000) for promoting good EIA practices in the Asian Pacific region;
Host of several important international and national conferences on SEA in China which were attended by hundreds of participants from Mainland China and around the world, including many top government officers and leading experts such as the Vice-Chairman of the Environment and Resource Commission of the Chinese National Peopleˇ¦s Congress.

 

Mission

  • Provide a platform for international agencies and SEA practitioners in and outside China to research and develop appropriate methods and practices for China
  • Enhance the effectiveness of SEA practices in China through institution and capacity building
